In only less than two weeks I shall be heading to SMDEP. I’m pretty excited for the program because I’m on the brink on deciding what the hell I’m really doing with my life. Hopefully this program shall show me whether the path in medicine is truly for me and whether I should remain on this path.. Meantime, I’m still here in Philly and still want to do a few things here...
“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”
I hear a conspiracy theory beginning to erupt about all this talk about Osama and his death. Frankly, I don’t believe in it but the theory behind it is still plausible. Some prime evidence for the public to see to confirm it was him would not hurt though..

It's annoying when
someone always claims they know it all
you get one letter texts or one word texts
guys in the gym who thinks its necessary to grunt, scream or yell for every rep
guys who think they are tough but not (when you can bench more than 8 plates and your arms are the size of my head then you are)
drama unfolds
there is no food in the refrigerator and you stand there with the door wide open...
I search but I never find, hurt but never cry. I work and forever try but I’m cursed, so never mind. It’s worse but better times seem far and beyond the top gets higher the more that I climb..

Med Word of the Day

rantingswede:
The concept of the standardized patient has been around for decades, but only in recent years have medical schools made training with them a regular part of their curriculum. I talked to a 50-ish physician friend about my experiences, and he said when he was in medical school and it was time for the first rectal/genital exam, the students were told to pair off and examine each...
Bladder Problems?
If you suffer from bladder problems and have to go to bathroom more than usual here are the most probably causes:
1. Drinking too much fluid
Try not to drink more than two liters of fluid a day. Try to be consistent and avoid drinking fluid right before bedtime.
2. Drinking too little fluid
Drinking too little is just as bad as drinking more than the recommended amount (about one liter). This...
What Predisposes Us to Violence?
I just recently watched the movie The Craigslist Killer. The movie is about a medical student who studied at Boston University and turns out to be a killer. After doing some careful research I discovered that more than a majority of the things in the movie were factual. The student had everything. He had a beautiful wife, a bright career ahead of him but he threw it all away. His story baffled...

Juarez is a city where gangs and drug cartels have taken over. Juarez is not the only city that is affected by drug war but is a clear representation of what is really going on. A city where violence has taken over. The residents in Juarez no longer feel safe but what...

For The Rest of US..
Some people are born with that “natural ability.” You know these people. The guy who comes in to the gym benches two or three plates and absolutely never worked out a day in his life. The person who always seems to get an A on every exam but never seems to work that hard for it. Yes, we all may know at least one individual who exemplifies these qualities. For the majority such as I,...

Madness Is Over
Finals week is over! Well for me that is but Temple University will officially be on winter break starting saturday. No more staying up in the wee nights to study for biology, orgo and calculus.. I finally came back home today and it felt great. I did start to feel a little homesick. I did miss my mom’s cooking, my brothers playing Xbox and even my dad yelling at me for the mess I always...

The Town
The Town is a must see! Even though it came out a month ago the movie certainly had it all. The movie had great action, a great plot and even brilliant actors playing their roles in the movie. The story was built around a set foundation of romance that was not esoterically all lubby dubby but was ingeniously crafted from such subsets of money, greed and power. Now this theme may seem typical for a...
Rain rain go away
Rain rain go away.
Please come again another day.
It has been raining for weeks now and frankly it has been annoying walking outside in the rain. The only time I actually like when it rains is when I am inside, have nothing to do or when sleeping. I find that the rain can be soothing at times. However, I would like to walk outside without my gargantuan- sized rain coat. The gloomy weather only...

All riled up
Argghghghghgh!! It has been a couple of hours since I took my biology exam. Let me just say that after coming out of that exam I wanted to smash ten bricks with my bare hands. I came in the classroom thinking that I would ace the exam. I would only find out that what I studied did not really matter and that in the end I would ultimately receive a low grade. I have been studying for this exam for...

Temple University
Oh Temple University classes tommorow..WTF? Where has the time gone. This summer went by really quick and now tomorrow I will start my second year at Temple. This semester is going to be tough. Organic chemistry, calculus 3 and biology 2.. Well I guess this is nothing compared to medical school so I should stop complaining. This semester I am definitely aiming for the 4.0
I'm a big boy now
I finally moved into my apartment. Let me begin by saying that yes there is ALOT of freedom. However, there are so many more responsibilities now that I will be having. Just after lunch after cooking some awesome rice and chicken it got me thinking. Doing housework will actually help me get accustomed to becoming more independent. Even living with three other guys is not so bad. We clean up after...

Call me a black cracker
Last week I finished my last day of mentoring kids. As I look back on it the six weeks working with kids were very satisfying and maybe I will reconsider working with these kids again next year. The kids were from the urban/African-American spectrum and were in the age group of 15-22. The program I was involved with which was called Bits was designed to teach work-ready skills to these youths so...

There is not enough hours of the day

Teenagers
It seems today teenagers have changed. Hello, being friendly or just smiling at someone seems rather rare in our generation. Most teens seem to adhere to this defensive mechanism when approached by a stranger. For example, if I were to say hello to some random teenager I would be questioned and the look on that teenager’s face would just be so puzzling. Thoughts like why are you talking to...

End of times??
Today is the second reference in which I heard that the world is ending. As a devout Christian I believe in the bible and its doctrines but some of the things in which the Bible presents things seems a little eerie to me. These earthquakes, natural disasters and all seem to point to this end of the world “debate.” I seemed to be a little skeptical at first and used my scientific...
